Career Support and Transistion Programs

CAREER SUPPORT AND RETENTION PROGRAMS

TRANSISTION GPS (GOALS, PLAN, SUCCEED) (TGPS)
Note: Career Counselors should schedule personnel for pre-separation briefs and TGPS up to 12 months prior to EAOS, 24 months prior to retirement.
This mandatory workshop is designed to meet the needs of separating and retiring service members during their period of transition into civilian life by offering an extensive array of employment, education and life skills training.

TGPS helps service members and their spouses develop personal transition plans that incorporate military career readiness standards in order to make a successful transition to their civilian life. The program includes pre-separation counseling, skill identification review, a Veterans Affair benefits brief and review, financial planning topics, and a job search and resume skill building workshop.

The FFSC partners with the Department of Labor and the Veterans Affairs Administration in order to equip separates and retirees with the necessary skills and training. The Department of Labor presents a three day workshop that includes elements of job search, career exploration, building effective resumes, federal hiring process and interviewing skills. Representatives of the VA present a one day extensive benefits brief including topics of education, health care, and life insurance. Whether transitioning service members decide to pursue education, technical training or other paths, TGPS will ensure they have the support and assistance they need to make a successful transition.
(Class is 5 days)

DISABILITY TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DTAP)
Service members leaving the military with a service-connected disability are offered the Disabled Transition Assistance Program (DTAP). DTAP consists of individual instruction to help determine job readiness and address the special needs of disabled veterans. DTAP services at Naval Station Lemoore are available at the Lemoore Naval Hospital.
