EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

JOB SEEKER’S ORIENTATION
Job Seeker’s Orientations are offered every Wednesday in the Career Center, Bldg 966, at 1030 and again 1330. Both military spouses and transitioning military are welcome to attend. A brief overview of the Career Center services, FFSC classes, workshops, resume assessments and special hiring programs is provided along with information on the base and local community job market.

RESUME WRITING WORKSHOP
Workshops are offered monthly in the Columbia College Computer Lab, Navy Mall, Bldg 828. Corporate/civilian resume writing for the competitive job market is briefed followed by hands on training with Microsoft Word sample resumes and templates.
(Class is 2 hours)

10 STEPS TO A FEDERAL JOB
This workshop is offered monthly in the Columbia College Computer Lab, Navy Mall, Bldg 828, which covers the entire federal job search process following leading federal resume writing expert, Kathryn Troutman’s 10 Step process. The brief includes all aspects of federal job hunting such as preference and placement programs, occupational series codes, hiring programs, and the different types of federal jobs followed by hands on training in the USAJobs website.
(Class is 2 hour)

INTERVIEWING SKILLS
This class provides information regarding proper dress, behavior, sample questions and answers expected for a successful interview. Additional topics covered are guidelines for company research and the different types of interviews. Students receive a book and handouts to support the information. One on one coaching sessions are also available per client request.
(Class is 1 hour)

CAREER EXPLORATION
This class utilizes Myers-Briggs personality testing via the 4 Lens program which guides clients to the occupations that best fit their preferences. Information is provided on desired skills and growth oriented occupations in today’s competitive job market.
(Class is 1 hour)

ADVANCED RESUME WRITING LAB
Held every other Friday from 0900-1000, sessions are conducted in the FFSC Career Center, Bldg 966, for clients with resumes who have already attended TAP class or a resume writing class and desire guided assistance to finalize and polish either their federal or corporate resume.
