Various Assistance:

Support groups specifically for veterans and are actively looking to support both the military and veterans. 

Kings County 211 website run by the United Way:  http://211kingscounty.org/  .  People can access these resources just by dialing 211 from a residential phone.  The website is easy to navigate and it addresses basic needs stuff like transportation and food.
